Welcome to the Farm:
Six New Black Beauty Piglets

We’ve had some exciting new arrivals at Five Blessings Farms — six beautiful Black Beauty piglets have joined the farm, and we couldn’t be more thankful. There’s something special about welcoming new life, especially when it represents the next step in our commitment to raising animals the right way: on pasture, in the woods, and with care from day one.

About the Black Beauty Pig

Black Beauty pigs are a Meishan – Berkshire cross. A heritage dark-skinned hog known for their hardiness, calm temperament, and exceptional meat quality. Their black hide helps protect them from sunburn, making them well-suited for outdoor living in East Texas conditions. These pigs thrive when allowed to express natural behaviors — rooting, grazing, and foraging — rather than being confined.

Key traits we love about the Black Beauty breed:

  • Strong foraging instincts
  • Excellent mothering ability
  • Adaptability to pasture and woodland systems
  • Rich, well-marbled pork with outstanding flavor

This breed aligns perfectly with our philosophy: animals should live as animals were designed to live.

Why Pasture & Woodland Raised Matters

Our Black Beauty piglets are being raised in a pasture-woodland environment, where they have room to roam, shade from the trees, and access to natural forage like roots, grasses, and acorns. This approach isn’t just better for the pigs — it’s better for the land and for the food we produce.

Benefits of pasture & woodland raised pork include:

  • Better animal welfare – less stress, more natural movement, and healthier pigs
  • Superior flavor – slow growth and diverse diets lead to deeper, richer taste
  • Healthier fat profile – well-balanced fat that cooks beautifully
  • Environmental stewardship – pigs help cycle nutrients and improve soil health when managed properly

We believe that when animals are raised with respect, the end result honors both the animal and the family who places that food on their table.

Looking Ahead

These six piglets represent months of care, planning, and stewardship ahead. From daily chores to seasonal changes, we’re committed to raising them responsibly and transparently — just like every animal on our farm.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to do this work and for the community that supports local, pasture-raised food. Thank you for following along and sharing in the journey.

As always, we give thanks to God for new beginnings, healthy animals, and the blessing of working this land.
